
Zero-tolerance against sexual harassment in public transports Rajshahi Bureau

the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) remains steadfast in its zero-tolerance policy against sexual harassment in public transport, stated Police Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian.
He made this announcement while presiding over the Metropolitan Road Safety Committee meeting at 11 am on Tuesday at the RMP Conference Room.
During his speech, Commissioner Abu Sufian emphasized the need to raise public awareness to prevent sexual harassment in public transport. He assured that any complaints of sexual harassment in public transport or public spaces would be thoroughly investigated, and necessary actions would be taken with the highest priority. The RMP is always vigilant in this regard, he added.
The commissioner highlighted the importance of training for drivers and helpers, installing CCTV cameras in various public places, and introducing panic buttons in public transport to ensure passenger safety.
The meeting also addressed issues related to maintaining order on metropolitan roads, ensuring route permits, driving licenses, and vehicle registrations as per regulations, and taking action against unfit vehicles, extortion, and overcharging passengers. The commissioner instructed all relevant departments to take necessary measures to curb these issues.
The event was attended by Additional Police Commissioner (Crime) Nazmul Hasan, Deputy Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Nur Alam Siddique, and BRTA Deputy Director (Engineering) ASM Kamrul Hasan.
Officials of BRAC and leaders of the Transport Workers’ Union were also present. .
