Noakhali Correspondent
The family members of affected expatriates and local residents held a human chain and protest march to protest the forceful occupation of land purchased by expatriates in Noakhali Sadar followed by a demand for 3 lakh taka as extortion money under political influence, where the land was used for paddy cultivation.
On Wednesday (March 26) at 10 a.m., the human chain and protest march took place on the road next to the occupied land near Boyar Bazaar in Dharmapur Union of Sadar Upazila.
During the event, the affected family members said that on December 10, 2024, expatriates Mo. Rashed, Mo. Sahed, and Mo. Shamim purchased 40 decimals of land in Bhatiartek Mouza of Dharmapur Union through a registered deed. After the purchase, when the seller went to hand over possession, Mosleh Uddin from the same area, introducing himself as a Jubo Dal leader, used political influence to forcibly plow the land and plant Boro paddy.
Later, when asked to vacate the land, Mosleh Uddin demanded 3 lakh taka from the expatriate family to leave. This led to several arguments. The affected expatriate family now seeks to reclaim their land from these extortionists.
Speaking at the human chain, land seller Abul Hossain said, “After selling the land through a registered deed, when I came to hand over possession, Mosleh Uddin and his group used political influence to seize the land, cultivated paddy on it, and now demand 3 lakh taka from the expatriates. We filed a complaint with the local union parishad, but no solution has been found yet.”
Speeches were given by the expatriate’s brother Imon, expatriate Shamim, the elderly mother of the expatriates Bibi Marjina, local resident Jamal Uddin, and land seller Abul Hossain, among others.
After the human chain, a protest march was held, demanding justice against the extortionist Mosleh Uddin and his group. The affected family and locals strongly urged local political figures and the administration to take notice and bring the culprits under the law swiftly.
When asked about the allegations, accused Mosleh Uddin told The Country Today over phone, there are some family disputes over the land, but the extortion allegations are not true.
