Victory Day celebrated in Khulna

People from all walks of life in Khulna today paid rich tributes to the valiant sons of the soil who embraced martyrdom during the Country’s Great War of Liberation in 1971 as they celebrated the Victory Day.

Different socio-political and cultural organizations and professional bodies organized various programmes in the district to observe the day in a befitting manner.

Khulna district administration celebrated glorious victory over the Pakistani occupation forces, pledging to establish a autocratic and discrimination free prosperous and developed Bangladesh with the spirit of Liberation War as well as July-August uprising.

The day was heralded with 31-gun salute at dawn at the Khulna Police Line Ground. Later, Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Firoz Sarkar hoisted the national flag at Khulna District Stadium.

With the beginning of the day’s programmes, people from all walks of life placed wreaths at the Gallamary monument.

Besides, all educational institutions organised various programmes on Liberation War. Sports event like football and cricket tournaments were also organized in the city marking the day.

Liberation war based movies or documentaries were screened at upazila level schools.

District administration also orgasined Victory Day essay competition and day-long ‘Bijoy Mela’ (Victory Fair) also at Khulna District Stadium.

Different political, social and cultural organizations, including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, Shishu Academy organised discussions, cultural events and art, essay and sports competitions for children.

A reception to the freedom fighters and sons and daughters of martyred freedom fighters was organized at the Khulna Shilpakola Academy marking the day.

Special prayers were offered at mosques, temples, churches and other places of worships seeking divine blessings of the martyred freedom fighters and for peace, progress and prosperity of the country.

Improved diet was served at all hospitals, orphanages and jail in observance of the day.

State-run Khulna Betar is broadcasting special programmes while the local newspapers published special supplements on the occasion.

Khulna University (KU), Khulna University Engineering and Technology (KUET), Khulna Press Club, Metropolitan Union of Journalists (MUJ), Mongla Port Authority (MPA) and different socio-cultural and political bodies celebrated the day in a befitting manner.
