Shimanto (20), a college student who was injured in a stabbing by muggers near Minnat Ali Mazaar in Narayanganj city, has passed away. He succumbed to his injuries late Saturday night (December 14) at 11 PM while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. His father, Haji Alam, confirmed the tragic news.

Shimanto was a second-year honors student at a private college in Dhaka. He was the elder of two siblings and the son of Haji Alam, a resident of the Deobhog Pakkar Road area in Narayanganj.

The incident occurred early Thursday morning (December 12) around 6 AM when Shimanto was on his way to college. Near Minnat Ali Mazaar in Deobhog, muggers attacked him with knives and fled after trying to snatch his bag and mobile phone. He sustained severe injuries to his head, abdomen, and leg. Local residents informed the family, who then rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Grieving the loss of his son, Haji Alam said, I had one son and one daughter—Shimanto was my eldest. On Thursday morning, muggers stopped him in front of Minnat Ali Mazaar and tried to take his bag and mobile. When he resisted, they stabbed him and fled. My family rushed him to the hospital in critical condition. After his death, we contacted the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station. My brother has gone to the police station. I leave justice in Allah's hands.

Regarding the incident, Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station OC Md. Nasir stated, "The victim's family was supposed to file a case, but they did not come immediately. However, we have been conducting operations to catch the culprits since the day of the incident.

Expressing his condolences, the OC added, I just heard about Shimanto's death, and it deeply saddens me. His uncle has approached me about the case, and it is now being processed. We hope to arrest the perpetrators swiftly after the case is officially filed.
