Over 5,000 hold human chain in Bhanga demanding UP building at former Chandra site

Around 5,000 residents participated in a human chain and protest rally in Bhanga Upazila of Faridpur district on Monday, demanding the construction of the new Chandra Union Parishad building at its historic site in the Chandra Bazar area.
Organized by local residents, the hour-long human chain began around 11:00 AM on Monday at Chandra Bazar, followed by a protest procession through key roads in the market area.
Demonstrators stated that the administrative activities of Chandra Union Parishad were historically conducted at Chandra Bazar until 1990, when severe river erosion damaged the original building. The official operations were subsequently shifted temporarily to the adjacent Maligram Bazar area, where administrative work continues to be conducted from temporary facilities.
Speaking at the human chain on Monday, local representatives emphasized that with Member of Parliament for Faridpur-4 Shahidul Islam Babul recently initiating steps to construct a permanent complex, the new building should be placed at Chandra Bazar to ensure equal access for residents, particularly women, children, and the elderly. Organizers highlighted that Chandra Bazar offers superior road connectivity compared to the distant current setup.
Among others, local dignitaries Delowar Bepari, Kalam Matubbar, Saim Matubbar, Sumon Molla, and Monir Matubbar were present alongside local residents at the human chain and subsequent rally.
