Traditional Blboat-making ceremony begins in Kurigram

Preparations for a traditional boat race have begun in Bhogdanga of Kurigram to preserve the vanishing rural heritage of Bangladesh. Local residents have inaugurated the construction of a new boat ahead of the traditional boat race.
The event is being organized by local youths, elders and respected community members in the Kaim Baraibari area of Madhyakumarpur under Ward No. 5 of Bhogdanga Union No. 3 in Kurigram Sadar Upazila.
The inauguration ceremony of the boat construction was held at around 1:00 pm on Tuesday. Among those present were Sirajul Islam Nayan, a candidate for Ward No. 5 member, social worker Yunus Ali, local businessman Chandan, Ilias Kanchan, Imdadul Haque, social worker Nur Islam, Nawomuddin, Abdul Hakim Kari, the local imam and other respected community members.
Local businessman Chandan, Nuruzzaman Haque (Amin) and Sirajul Islam Nayan, candidate for Ward No. 5 member, spoke at the event.
Sirajul Islam Nayan said various sports and recreational activities are being organized to keep young people away from drugs and harmful cultural influences. He said their goal is to provide youths with healthy entertainment through traditional events such as boat races while preserving the culture and heritage of rural Bengal.
Local residents said one of their main objectives is to engage young people in healthy recreational activities through sports and traditional rural events.
