Mahabubur Rahman Tipu, Dohar (Dhaka)
Fraudsters have allegedly attempted to secure a Tk 100 crore loan by forging the signature of Dhaka-1 constituency Member of Parliament and Dhaka District BNP President, Khandaker Abu Ashfaq.
The matter came to light after MP Ashfaq filed a GD with Nawabganj Police Station regarding the incident.
According to the GD, the gang forged the MP's signature and identity to prepare loan documents containing a fraudulent commitment letter. The forged agreement falsely claimed that the parliamentarian would repay the Tk 100 crore loan through work allocated under his quota. Financial institutions have been alerted not to approve any transactions linked to the fraudulent scheme.
Speaking to reporters, Ashfaq stated that no financial transactions can be conducted using his identity and demanded a thorough police investigation to identify the perpetrators.
Confirming the matter, Nawabganj Police Station OC Abu Hanif said an investigation into the GD is underway to uncover those involved in the forgery.
