A devastating fire broke out on a tourist house boats in the Patlai River, near the Tekarghat Limestone Mining Project area in Tanguar Haor, Tahirpur Upazila, in Sunamganj.
A devastating fire broke out on a tourist house boats in the Patlai River, near the Tekarghat Limestone Mining Project area in Tanguar Haor, Tahirpur Upazila, in Sunamganj.
The entire houseboat was completely burnt down. Locals reported that the incident occurred at 8:30 PM on Friday.
On Friday morning, 19 people, including 12 tourists, boatmen, and staff, set out from Tahirpur on a houseboat named Rahbar Nau Paribahan to explore Tanguar Haor. After spending the day touring, they anchored in the Patlai River near the Tekarghat Limestone Mining Project area in the evening to spend the night. To provide lighting, a generator was started on the houseboat in the evening. Around 8:30 PM, while using the generator’s electricity to charge multiple mobile phones via a multi-plug, a fire broke out on the boat.
At the time, the 19 people on board took shelter in another nearby houseboat. While all 12 tourists and staff were safe, all their belongings were destroyed in the fire. A police team has been dispatched to the scene.
Tahirpur Upazila UNO Md. Abul Hashem said, the fire went out of control, reducing the houseboat to ashes. All the people on the houseboat safely took shelter in another boat, so no one was harmed. However, all their belongings were burnt in the fire
