
Allegation of assault in Sreenagar over being witness in case

An allegation has been made that a man named Sheikh Monsur was assaulted in Sreenagar for being a witness in a case.
The incident took place at the Baraikhali Bazaar in Sreenagar upazila on April 24
A woman named Sufia Begum (48) from Baraikhali village filed a case at Sreenagar Police Station against Md. Azad Dewan and several others from the same village. Sheikh Monsur (45), son of Sheikh Mafiz Uddin of the same village, was named as a witness in the case.
A few days later, allegedly as a result of this, Azad Dewan along with several others called Monsur to the front of Ayub Ali’s grocery store in Baraikhali Bazaar. Under the leadership of Azad Dewan, they surrounded Monsur and began verbally abusing him with obscene language. At one point, they said, “So, you’ve become a witness in the case? We’ll show you what happens to witnesses,” and started beating him.Hearing Monsur’s screams, nearby people came forward and rescued him. Following this incident, Sheikh Monsur filed a complaint at Srinagar Police Station.
When asked about the incident, Azad Dewan, identifying himself as the Organizing Secretary of the Baraikhali Union Jubo Dal said, “Monsur Sheikh is an Awami League supporter.
Sreenagar Police Station Sub-Inspector Shariful Islam, the investigating officer of the case, said preparations are underway to submit the matter to court after investigation.
