The Bangladesh Coast Guard seized a massive cache of smuggled Indian medicines and cosmetics worth approximately Tk 12.62 lakh during an anti-smuggling drive in Narayanganj.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon, Media Officer of the Bangladesh Coast Guard headquarters informed this in a press release on Thursday night.
He stated that a specialized team from the Pagla Coast Guard Station, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid in the Pagla Bazar area under Narayanganj at around 8:00 PM on Wednesday.
During the operation, law enforcers recovered the illegal contraband left abandoned in the area. Sensing the presence of the Coast Guard team, the smugglers managed to flee the scene, meaning no arrests could be made during the drive.
The seized pharmaceutical products and cosmetics have been handed over to the Bangshal Circle Customs, Excise, and VAT Commissionerate for further legal action.
The Coast Guard remains committed to maintaining strict vigilance and will continue similar operations to eliminate smuggling operations across domestic waterways and coastal regions, the press release added.
