Coast Guard seizes 4,500kg banned polythene in N'ganj

The Bangladesh Coast Guard today seized 4,500 kilograms of banned polythene bags, worth an estimated Tk 54 lakh, during a drive near the Kanchpur Bridge area in Narayanganj.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon, Media Officer of the Coast Guard informed the matter in a press release on Wednesday afternoon.
Acting on a tip-off, a special team from the Coast Guard Station Pagla conducted an operation in the area around 7:00 AM. During the drive, the team intercepted and searched a suspicious truck, leading to the recovery of the illegal polythene. The driver and helper of the truck were later released along with the vehicle after signing a legal bond.
The seized polythene bags were subsequently handed over to the Narayanganj office of the Department of Environment for destruction.
The Coast Guard will continue to conduct similar operations in the future to protect the environment, the press release added.
