Coast Guard seizes illegal nets worth Tk 5.28cr in Chandpur

The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized illegal 'China Duari' and 'Current' fishing nets worth an estimated Tk 5.28 crore during a drive in the Puran Bazar area of Chandpur Sadar upazila.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon, Media Officer of the Coast Guard said this in a press release on Wednesday afternoon.
Acting on a tip-off, a special team from the Coast Guard Station Chandpur conducted the operation in a warehouse in Puran Bazar on Tuesday evening, between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM. During the raid, the team recovered 100 pieces of illegal China Duari nets and 15 lakh meters of current nets, valued at approximately Tk 5,28,50,000.
Later, a mobile court led by the Chandpur Sadar UNO and Magistrate fined the warehouse owner for storing the banned nets, and the realized fine was deposited into the government treasury. The seized illegal nets were subsequently destroyed in the presence of the executive magistrate and a local fisheries officer.
The Coast Guard official reiterated that the force will continue such operations in the future to protect national fisheries and marine resources.
