Chattogram Bureau
On the eve of the COP29 conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, the Integrated Social Development Effort (ISDE) organized a symbolic climate awareness campaign in Chattogram. Using an ice cream cone shaped like the Earth as a metaphor, the campaign highlighted the message "Earth is Not a Cone—Stop the Meltdown!" emphasizing the urgent need to address global warming and prevent further climate disasters.
Speakers in the campaign discussed the negative impacts of fossil fuel use and other greenhouse gases that drive climate change and global warming. They emphasized that rising temperatures are causing polar ice to melt and sea levels to rise, threatening biodiversity in polar and coastal regions. They stated, "Unless we urgently reduce fossil fuel consumption, it will be impossible to halt the Earth’s warming."
CAB central Vice President & ISDE’s Executive Director S M Nazer Hossain said, "To protect our planet from the devastating impacts of climate change, we must curb our reliance on fossil fuels. Time is running out, and if we don’t act now, future generations will pay the price."
This campaign included representatives from civil society, environmentalists, journalists, students, and volunteers, all joining forces to call for climate justice. The initiative aimed to bring this crucial message to the attention of international leaders at COP29.
