National Fisheries Week discussion meeting held in Mymensingh

Marking National Fisheries Week under the theme "Silver Fisheries is a self-reliant country, Bangladesh is the first," a colorful rally and discussion meeting were held in Mymensingh on Monday.

The day's program commenced at 11:00 AM on Monday with the release of fish fry into a pond in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Participants then released balloons and joined a vibrant rally that paraded through the city's main thoroughfares before concluding at the Abdul Jabbar Auditorium of the Mymensingh Zilla Parishad, where the discussion meeting took place.

Mymensingh Divisional Commissioner SM Humayun Kabir Sarkar presided over the event, while Member of Parliament for Mymensingh-4 Abu Wahab Akand Wahid addressed the gathering as the chief guest.

In his speech, the chief guest noted that Mymensingh stands as one of the country's most vital hubs for fish production. Emphasizing that the national economy, employment generation, and public livelihoods are deeply intertwined with the fisheries sector, he assured government cooperation to further propel the industry forward in the region.

The event featured speeches from several special guests, including Mymensingh City Corporation Administrator Md. Rokonuzzaman Rokon, Mymensingh Development Authority Chairman Motahar Hossain Talukder, Mymensingh Range DIG Mohammad Zahidul Hasan, Mymensingh Fisheries Department Director Nripendranath Biswas, Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner Md. Saifur Rahman, and Superintendent of Police Md. Kamrul Hasan.

District Fisheries Officer Arafat Uddin Ahmed delivered the welcome remarks at the outset of the program. The meeting concluded with the presentation of awards and crests to five successful fish farmers in recognition of their contributions.
