Leaders of the Bangladesh Deed Writers Association, Faridpur District Branch, have submitted a memorandum to the Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs through the Deputy Commissioner of Faridpur, pressing for a 7-point charter of demands to protect their professional rights and dignity.
The memorandum was formally submitted on behalf of the association on Tuesday morning.
Present during the submission were Bangladesh Deed Writers Association Faridpur District Branch President Md. Saiful Islam, General Secretary Shafikul Islam, and other district and upazila-level leaders.
The memorandum outlines seven key demands, including ensuring that deed writers are not displaced from their profession under the guise of modernizing the deed registration system, implementing a minimum honorarium of Tk 5,000 per deed, and prohibiting unlicensed individuals from drafting or submitting deeds for registration. Furthermore, the demands stipulate that licenses should not be issued to inexperienced individuals without recommendations from thana, district, and central committees; dedicated seating and prayer spaces should be constructed at thana and district offices at government expense; and deed writers acting in good faith based on client-provided documents should not be unjustly named as accused in legal cases.
District Branch President Md. Saiful Islam said, deed writers have long played a vital role in facilitating land-related transactions and services for the public, making the safeguarding of their professional rights, security, and dignity essential.
