BNP leader stabbed to death by thief in Bhandaria

 A local BNP leader named Rezaul Karim Jhantu has been killed by a thief in a coconut theft incident in Bhandaria, Pirojpur.
 
The incident took place in Uttar Sialkathi village of the upazila on Friday morning. The deceased, Rezaul Karim Jhantu, was the general secretary of BNP in Ward No. 8 of Vitabari Union of Bhandaria Upazila.
 
According to local sources, Rubel Khan, son of Mojibur Khan of the same area, stole several coconuts from the house of Abdul Halim Professor of Uttar Sialkathi village in Bhandaria upazila on Thursday (August 28) afternoon. The incident was reported to Halim Professor's son Masud Rana at the police station that night and his relative Jhantu, general secretary of Ward No. 8 BNP, by his relative. Jhantu asked Rubel to return the coconuts that night. When Rubel refused to return them, Jhantu said he would look into the matter on Friday morning. Later on Friday morning, when Jhantu came in front of Masud Rana's house, he saw Rubel there. At that time, before Jhantu realized anything, Rubel stabbed Jhantu several times with the knife he was carrying. This caused serious injuries to his body. The locals rescued him in a seriously injured condition and took him to Bhandaria Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
 
Dr. Khairul Bashar, a doctor on duty at Bhandaria Upazila Health Complex, said that a person named Rezaul Karim Jhantu was brought to the hospital dead in the morning.
 
Bhandaria Police Station OC Md. Jahangir Hossain said that Rezaul Karim Jhantu's body has been sent to the morgue. Efforts are underway to arrest accused Rubel.
