World Environment Day celebrates in Kishoreganj

The World Environment Day was observed on Monday in Kishoreganj encouraging people in taking collective and transformative action on a global scale to protect and restore the planet and its environment.

Every year on June 5 , World Environment Day has a specific host country and a theme. Côte D'Ivoire, in partnership with the Netherlands, is this year’s host. The theme of the day is ‘solutions to plastic pollution’, under the campaign #Beat Plastic. Pollution.

More than 150 countries are expected to participate in this year’s World Environment Day.

In Kishoreganj, District Administration, Department of Environment (DoE), TIB-Sanak, BRAC NGO Forum, and Environment Protect Forum have arranged various programme likes colour full rally, discussion, postering , human chain marking the day.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) in Kishoreganj, Md.Abul Kalam Azad attended as chief guest and Zila Parishad chairman and ruling Awami League district president advocate Zillur Rahman, Civil Surgeon dr. Saiful Islam, Additional SP (Crime, Ops) Md. Al -Amin and DD in NSI Md. Iqbal special guests, while ADC (General) Rubel Mahamud in the chair.

It was addressed among others by, Chamber president Mujibur Rahman Belal , CAB district president Alam.
Sarowar Tito, BRAC district Manager Shafiqul Islam, and DoE senior chemist Rubayet Shorab.

DC Abul Kalam Azad said there is no alternative to pollution - free and natural environment for the existence of Mankind and entire living thing in the world.

But we are constantly polluting the environment in various man- made ways
Unplanned use of plastic products has made environmental pollution more problematic, DC added.

More than 430 million tonnes of plastic is produced every year worldwide, two-thirds of which are short-lived products that soon become waste. While the social and economic costs of plastic pollution range between $US300 to US$600 billion per year.

CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito said, As the recent United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) report, Turning off the Tap, makes clear, redesigning how we produce, use, recover and dispose of plastics and products could save US$4.5 trillion by 2040 “We must refuse unnecessary single-use items.
