Kalapara Upazila Parishad Chairman SM Rakibul Ahsan has resigned. He submitted his resignation letter to Kalapara UNO on April 25. After the completion of the term, he submitted his resignation letter to be relieved from the post of Upazila Parishad Chairman.

Besides, he gave a written letter to UNO about not participating in the fourth phase upazila parishad elections to be held on June 5.

However, the political arena has suddenly become active with the resignation of Awami League leader Rakibul and his decision not to participate in the elections. Some in the political arena say Rakibul is planning to leave the country to escape the ACC case.

According to sources, on April 25, 2024, upazila Awami League senior vice-president and Kalapara upazila parishad chairman SM Rakibul Ahsan gave a separate letter to Kalapara UNO along with a resignation letter about not participating in the upcoming elections. In which he spoke about his illness after being injured in a road accident and highlighted the need to seek treatment outside the country for better treatment.

Kalapara UNO Md. Rabiul Islam confirmed the resignation of Rakibul from the post of upazila chairman and said, "He has highlighted the need for better medical treatment outside the country for his illness in his resignation letter. His resignation letter has been forwarded to the appropriate authorities.

At this time, UNO said that he will perform his duties as the chief executive officer of the upazila parishad. Meanwhile, about the resignation of Upazila Chairman Rakibul and his non-participation in the election, several sources in the political arena said, Rakibul has become the owner of illegal money and wealth through corruption and irregularities.

Rakibul is planning to leave the country to escape from the case under investigation by the CID on charges of fraud and money embezzlement, along with the ongoing Anti-Corruption Act case on allegations of loss of mosque money and assets.

However, no statement of SM Rakibul Ahsan was found in this regard.
