Abdullah Al Amin, the central joint secretary of the National Citizens' Committee, has announced that a new political party for students will be launched this February. He made this statement on Sunday after submitting an 8-point memorandum to the Narayanganj District Commissioner’s office.

The leader of the National Citizens' Committee stated that significant progress has been made toward forming the new party. Discussions and dialogues have already taken place with students and professionals who participated in the July-August movement. The official announcement of the political party is expected soon, with its formation to be completed within February.

Regarding the memorandum, Abdullah Al Amin said, We have submitted an 8-point memorandum to the Narayanganj District Commissioner, highlighting issues such as the deteriorating law and order situation in the city, increasing extortion, mugging, and traffic congestion. We have urged the authorities to take necessary actions.

He also pointed out that families of martyrs are facing legal harassment and requested the district commissioner to intervene. The commissioner listened attentively and assured us that steps would be taken to address these concerns, he added.

Additionally, the committee has demanded the construction of a memorial in Narayanganj to honor the martyrs, as the city played a crucial role in past movements.

Abdullah Al Amin further emphasized the need to bring those responsible for firing on protestors to justice. "We have demanded the arrest of the terrorists who opened fire on students and citizens. The souls of our martyrs will not rest in peace until the fascist forces and their accomplices are punished, he stated.

Before submitting the memorandum, the delegation, which included several central and local leaders of the National Citizens' Committee, marched from the Shaheed Minar in Chashara to the district commissioner's office.

Among those present were central committee members Shawkat Ali, Tuhin Mahmud, Tamim Ahmed, and Narayanganj representatives Ahmedur Rahman Tonu, Sohel Khan Siddique, Jubair Hossain, Fazle Rabbi, Rony Khandaker, and Rakib.

Narayanganj District BNP Announces 5 Member Convening Committee

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced a new five-member convening committee for its Narayanganj district unit, with Professor Mamun Mahmud, a member of the BNP’s National Executive Committee, as the convener. This comes after the previous district committee was dissolved on December 24 following recommendations from an investigation committee. Notably, the new committee does not include a secretary position.

Mustafizur Rahman Dipu Bhuiyan, a member of the Executive Committee, has been appointed as the senior joint convener, while Mashukul Islam Rajib and Sharif Ahmed Tutul have been named joint conveners. Mohammad Gias Uddin has been included as a committee member.

The announcement was made through a press release signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Sunday (February 2).

Professor Mamun Mahmud, the newly appointed convener, stated, A convening committee for Narayanganj District BNP has been formed today through an official statement. I express my gratitude to BNP’s acting chairperson, Tarique Rahman, as well as to all party leaders and activists. Given the current political scenario, our priority is to work together without internal conflicts and to maintain unity within the party. I seek everyone’s cooperation in this effort.

On June 18, 2023, during the Narayanganj district BNP conference, former Member of Parliament Muhammad Gias Uddin was elected president, and Golam Faruq Khokon was elected general secretary. However, following a shift in the political landscape on August 5, allegations began surfacing against the leadership of this committee. The BNP central committee formed an investigation team, which later recommended dissolving the committee. Acting on these recommendations, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi issued a statement on December 24, officially dissolving the previous committee.
