Sylhet Bureau

Advisor to BNP Chairperson Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said that Martyr President Ziaur Rahman took groundbreaking steps in the development of health system. The benefits of which are still being enjoyed by the people of Bangladesh.

Among the historic 19 points of Shaheed Zia, 10 points are 'arrangement of minimum medical treatment for the countrymen' which he has demonstrated in practice. Soon after independence, the public health infrastructure collapsed with outbreaks of malnutrition, rising birth rates, smallpox, diarrhoea, cholera and other waterborne diseases which were quickly addressed by the then President Shahid Zia.

As a result of effective initiatives in Bangladesh, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, Maternal and Child Health Care took up the 'Tetanus Vaccination' program in 1991 under the leadership of National Leader Begum Khaleda Zia during the BNP government.

He also said, I thank all the hospitals and doctors and health workers who have contributed and continue to provide medical services to the injured students who took part in the movement to demand the quota reform and later the downfall of Sheikh Hasina. They did not forget their professional responsibilities in the oppression of dictatorship and provided brave treatment to the leaders and activists of BNP and opposition parties for 17 years. They are brave warriors.

The medical community is a conscious citizen of this country. From the language movement to the sacrifice of doctors in the liberation war of 1971, martyred Dr. Milan's self-sacrifice transformed the movement into a mass uprising. Similarly, the students of medical society and medical college actively participate in this anti-discrimination student movement. As a result, Dr. Many doctors including Sajib were martyred and we got an independent state.
