104th DU Day celebrated amid festive mood

The 104th Dhaka University Day was celebrated on Monday in a festive mood.

On this day in 1921, the education program of Dhaka University started. This year the theme of the day is 'Higher Education for Skill Development of Young Generation'. On the occasion of the day colorful programs are taken up in the campus throughout the day. Programs included flag hoisting, pigeon flying, balloon flying, cake cutting, theme song presentation, procession and discussion meeting.

The program of the day started at 10 am with the performance of national anthem, hoisting of national flag and flags of universities and halls, flying of pigeons, flying of balloons, presentation of theme song and cutting of cake. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maqsood Kamal was present as the chief guest and inaugurated the various programs of the university day. Earlier, a colorful procession was taken out from Smriti Chirantan Chatwar with the participation of teachers, students, officials, staff and alumni. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maqsood Kamal led the procession.

At 10:30 a.m., a discussion session on 'Higher Education to Enhance the Skills of the Young Generation' was held in the Student-Teacher Center Auditorium. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maqsud Kamal chaired the discussion meeting Speaker of the National Assembly Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, MP presented the keynote as the chief guest. Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Muhammad Samad, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof. Dr. Sitesh Chandra Bachar and Treasurer Professor Mumtaz Uddin Ahmed spoke as special guests in the meeting. Member of Parliament Benazir Ahmed, Dhaka University Alumni Association President Anwar-ul-Alam Chowdhury, Emeritus Professor Dr. AF Sirajul Islam Chowdhury and president of Bangladesh Chhatra League. Saddam Hussein Registrar Praveer Kumar Sarkar conducted the program.

Speaker of the National Parliament. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury called upon the young generation to play a leading role in building Bangladesh free from poverty, exploitation and discrimination by taking higher education. He said that the youth should be empowered to fulfill their social responsibilities and work for the development of the backward sections of the society.

Youth is one of the best times of life. This time should be properly utilized to sharpen the intellect and mind and be keenly intelligent. He appealed to the youth to acquire complete knowledge and pursue higher education through devotion and perseverance. He said that education makes people wise, skilled and full of values. So change is possible only through education. Higher education is one of the means of acquiring knowledge. One goal of higher education is 'transactional', the other is 'transformational'. The first goal is to prepare a student for the workplace through skill-based education. The second aim and objective of higher education is not only to get a good job, but in this case, through acquiring knowledge, a student develops fully as a human being and is able to face all challenges. At the same time his human values are awakened and he acquires analytical skills.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maqsood Kamal expressed a strong commitment to transform Dhaka University into a higher research-oriented university by 2035 and into a research-oriented 'RI' (RI) category university by 2045. has been formulated. He requested everyone's cooperation in implementing these plans.

He mentioned that Dhaka University will be made into a unique university and international standard educational institution on the world education map through research, innovation and skill acquisition with the cooperation of national leaders, intellectuals, academics, researchers, alumni, businessmen.

The Vice-Chancellor said that Dhaka University has established an independent nation-state under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. No other university in the world has such a successful example. Highlighting the unique contribution of Dhaka University in the political and social development of the country and the creation of skilled human resources, the Vice-Chancellor said that everyone should work unitedly to develop as a self-reliant, self-respecting and self-reliant nation. He said, by imparting skill-based, modern, practical and welfare-oriented education, we want to prepare the young generation to face future challenges. Initiatives have already been taken to provide scholarships to all poor students in the first year to ensure a frustration-free educational life for the students. He sought the cooperation of alumni and industry to implement these initiatives.
