IU students block highway demanding cancellation of quota

Maliha Chowdhury, IU

The students of Islamic University of Kushtia blocked the Kushtia-Khulna highway on the second day of the movement to protest against the reinstatement of freedom fighter quota in jobs.

Under the banner of 'Anti-discrimination student movement, Islamic University', the agitators took out a procession from Shahid Minar of the campus at 11:30 am on Thursday. The movement lasted for about an hour.

The procession left the main gate of the campus and took a stand on the Kushtia-Khulna highway in front of the main gate. There the students blocked the highway and took a stand. Meanwhile, severe traffic jam occurred on Kushtia-Jhenaidah-Jesore-Khulna road.

Moreover, Mokhlesur Rahman Sweet, the leader of the movement, said, 'Our movement is a logical movement. The Liberation War was fought to bury the discrimination, we do not want to accept the discrimination with the quota of freedom fighters. Our movement will continue till the quota reforms.'
