Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan said that those who make history are above politics. I do not want to see political identities in these matters.

He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a program organized to celebrate the historic 'Flag Hoisting Day' at the Battala premises adjacent to the University's Kala Bhavan on Sunday. Earlier, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan inaugurated the program by hoisting the national flag.

The program was presided over by Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha, and Treasurer Prof Dr. M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury spoke as a special guest. Program coordinator and Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan delivered the welcome speech. Acting Registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed conducted the program. Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, Deans of various faculties, Provosts of various halls, Chairmen of various departments, Directors of various institutes, Office Heads, Teachers, Students, Officers and Staff were present at the program. ASM Abdur Rab was invited as the guest of honor. He could not attend due to physical illness.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan said, Flag Hoisting Day on March 2 is one of the important events in history to determine our national identity. This year's Flag Hoisting Day has taken on a new dimension in the context of the mass uprising of students and the public. On March 2, 1971, the national flag was hoisted at the Kala Bhavan premises of Dhaka University under the leadership of fearless students. These events give us courage. He paid tribute to the then DUCSU leaders and student leaders for doing such an important task as hoisting the historic flag.

Highlighting the significance of the day, he said, the nation is going through a transitional period today. Various conspiracies are being hatched. It is important to maintain unity at this time.

Stating that Dhaka University has always stood by the nation in any need, the Vice Chancellor said, "We are the proud legacy of history.

The national anthem, country songs and dances were performed at the event with the participation of students from the university's music department and dance department.
