
Brazilian Chief Justice's special lecture at DU : Role of young generation of Bangladesh to change country lauded

Brazilian Chief Justice Mr. Justice Antonio Herman Benjamin has highly praised the young generation of Bangladesh, saying that they have changed a country and the world has learned a special lesson from it.
They have proven that the young generation of this country can change the world through the recent mass uprising of students and the public.
He said these while delivering a special lecture titled 'Global Trends in Environmental Law and Climate Law' at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building of Dhaka University on Tuesday.
Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan was present as the chief guest at the event. The Faculty of Law of Dhaka University organized the lecture.
The event was chaired by Prof Dr. Mohammad Ikramul Haque, Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Mr. Paulo Fernando Dias Feres, Ambassador of Brazil to Bangladesh, was present as the special guest. Prof Md. Khurshid Alam, Chairman of the Law Department of Dhaka University, expressed his gratitude at the event.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan said that the issue of environmental protection and climate change is not just for a specific group or country. It is a big challenge for the entire mankind. Organizing such lectures can play an important role in creating harmony between academics, researchers, professionals and the government to face this challenge.
Justice Mr. Antonio Herman Benjamin highlighted the current challenges of environmental law, international policies and the role of the court in establishing environmental justice. He said that mankind around the world is facing various crises and challenges in dealing with natural resources, biodiversity, environmental protection and climate change. He emphasized on maintaining humanitarian activities and moral values and ensuring the rule of law to face these challenges together.
He further said that climate change issues should be discussed under the environmental law. Highlighting various issues of natural disasters in Bangladesh, he said that to protect future generations and the earth, investment in environmental conservation should be increased, the law should be properly implemented and the people should be given proper guidance.
Ambassador Mr. Paulo Fernando Dias Feres said that the young generation of Bangladesh is very potential. Any change in the country is possible with their hands.
Teachers and students of various universities including Dhaka University, lawyers, researchers, environmental activists and representatives of various organizations participated in the program.
