The extreme slowness in the construction of the new building of Dayarghat Government Primary School No. 97 in Asashuni Upazila Sadar has made it difficult to run the school.
The construction of the new building of the school was approved under the PEDP-4 project. The 3-storey building will have 4 rooms on the 1st and 2nd floors and 1 room on the 3rd floor. 1 crore 16 lakh 7928 taka has been allocated for the work.
The work was supposed to start in June 2023 and was supposed to end in September 2024. Accordingly, the old building is being removed and a temporary house is being constructed in a very low tin shed and classes are being conducted. Students are sitting in a narrow space between the cloth and thatch fences in the 4-room, head-to-head house with an office.
The school, which is filled with the hustle and bustle of 140 students, is now becoming like a dead end. Despite this, the contractor started digging the beds in December-January. Once the term expired, he started the foundation work in February 2025. When he went to the ground, it was seen that only 3 workers were working. It is difficult to say when the work will be completed. The term of the work expired in September 2024. The time has been extended again until next June. The project term will also end in June. It is difficult to say what will be the outcome of this work then, said the school's headmaster Murshida Parveen. The school's temporary house is in poor condition, the field is full of building construction equipment and the dam construction materials of the Water Development Board.
There is no opportunity to play, there is no environment for the students to walk. In this regard, Anindy Kumar Dev, the upazila engineer of LGED, said that since the term of the work has expired, it has been extended until next June. Currently, the pace of work is quite good. Now 25/30% of the work has been completed. The work should be completed by June.
The project period is ending in June. Caption: Dayarghat Government Primary School building under construction.
