Industrialist Jasim murder: Two women confess in N’ganj court

Narayanganj Correspondent

Two women, Ruma Akter and her friend Ruku, have confessed in court to the murder and dismemberment of industrialist Jasim Uddin Masum, owner of Chand Dyeing in Narayanganj. Their confessions were recorded on Friday afternoon, November 15, under Section 164 by Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Haidar Ali in Narayanganj court. Ruma and Ruku voluntarily provided details of the crime behind closed doors.

Ruma, allegedly Jasim’s lover, and her friend Ruku collaborated in the murder and the subsequent dismemberment of Jasim into 11 pieces. Narayanganj court police inspector Md. Kaiyum Khan confirmed the confessional statements.

Incident Details :

According to court sources, police recovered seven dismembered pieces of Jasim’s body on Wednesday, November 13, from a lake in Purbachal, Rupganj, wrapped in three plastic bags. Law enforcement agencies quickly uncovered the mystery behind the gruesome murder.

Following investigations, Ruma and Ruku were arrested along with two other individuals from Kafrul. While Ruma and Ruku were formally charged under the murder case, the other two were released.

A police official involved in the investigation told the media that after the murder, Ruma stayed in her Kafrul apartment without showing any signs of tension, continuing her routine and sleeping normally. Police apprehended her on Wednesday night, and during interrogation, she confessed to the crime.

Planning and Execution :

Ruma claimed that she lived in a three-bedroom apartment in Kafrul with her younger sister, a friend, her sister-in-law, and the sister-in-law’s child. Jasim was drugged with sedatives mixed in milk upon arriving at the apartment. He remained unconscious for two days before being killed on Tuesday in a bathroom, where his body was dismembered into 11 pieces.

With the help of a friend, Ruma acquired two bags to dispose of the body. Seven pieces were dumped by a lake in Rupganj, while four pieces were discarded in a grassland area near 300 Feet Road. Based on Ruma’s confession, police recovered the remaining four pieces on Thursday from the grassland. These included Jasim’s hands, feet, and parts of his torso.

The murder weapons, including a machete and blades, were hidden in a house on Banani’s Road 20. Police later recovered these items along with some of Jasim’s clothes.

Motive:

During interrogation, Ruma revealed she had been in a long-term intimate relationship with Jasim, who had also developed relationships with other women. Consumed by anger and jealousy, Ruma decided to kill him.

Background :

Jasim, who was also a film producer for movies like *Nodi Jole Shapla Vase*, had connections in the film industry, where he met Ruma. Promising to help her become an actress, he built a close relationship with her. According to sources, Jasim had also set up a cattle farm for Ruma in her hometown of Mymensingh.

On Sunday, November 10, Jasim left his home in the afternoon, asking his driver to return home after dropping him in Gulshan. Later, he called another driver, Malek, to take him to Narayanganj. After Jasim went missing and his phone remained unreachable, his eldest son filed a missing person report with Gulshan police on Monday.

On Wednesday, November 13, police discovered seven dismembered body parts wrapped in plastic near the lake in Rupganj. Using the missing person report, authorities identified the remains as Jasim Uddin Masum.

Following the investigation, Ruma and Ruku were presented in court, where they confessed to the crime. The judge ordered their incarceration after recording their statements.

Dead body found in Fatullah

Police have recovered the body of a man named Md. Emen Ali (52) from the Link Road in Fatullah, Narayanganj.

On Saturday morning , locals spotted the body lying on the Dhaka-bound lane of the overpass in the Bhuiyagarh area of the Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road and informed the police.

Upon receiving the news, Fatullah Police Station officers recovered the body and sent it to the morgue at the Sadar General (Victoria) Hospital for autopsy. There were injury marks on the back of the head and the ear, and one of his wrists was broken.

Initially unidentified, the body was identified using modern technology by a team from the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI). The deceased, Emen Ali, was the son of Abdur Rashid Mia from Ramchandra village in Islampur Upazila, Jamalpur district. At the time of recovery, he was wearing a red and navy-blue striped T-shirt and a white lungi.

Preliminary police investigations suggest that he may have been hit by a speeding vehicle, such as a CNG or car, while crossing the road. Although his home was in Jamalpur, it is believed he lived somewhere nearby and worked in a low-income profession.

However, local sources revealed that Emen Ali was a fish trader. Around 6 a.m., while likely heading to a market to buy fish, he may have been attacked and killed by robbers using sharp weapons.
