Don't want to hear any words like minority-majority: Jamaat Ameer
Kushtia Correspondent
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has vowed to build Bangladesh based on equality.
“We no longer want to hear about the minority or majority in this country. All those born in Bangladesh are proud and dignified citizens of this nation, irrespective of their religion or caste," he said.
The jamaat leader made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a member conference at the Kushtia Government College grounds on Saturday.
He said that people in this country will not face any obstacles in practicing their respective religions, and Islam cannot be forced on anyone.
Shafiqur Rahman said after independence, until 5 August of last year, those who treated the liberation war and the independence of this country as the legacy of their fathers and grandfathers spoke of ‘consciousness.’
“And through such rhetoric, they have plundered this nation, committed genocide, and their children have inflicted a century of rape through their atrocities. They have looted the country’s wealth and smuggled it abroad. Wherever there has been any mega development, mega robbery has taken place."
"With the amount spent on building one Padma Bridge, at least four could have been constructed. So where did the money for the other three bridges go? The answer is clear. Those who have established 'Begum Para' abroad with the nation’s money have stolen it."
Referring to the contributions of students and the public in the July-August uprising, he said, "We must protect the sacrifice of the blood, and we must show respect.”
He said they (the protesters)asked above all for justice.
“We also want justice in all areas. We do not want any discrimination. We promise our children that just as you gave your lives to bring freedom to the nation once again, we will fulfill your demands with our lives, if necessary, Inshallah. May Allah grant us success," he said.
The Jamaat Ameer added, "If Jamaat-e-Islami comes to power, we will build a nation where the people of this country will no longer need to go abroad for jobs.”
“Prior to 1757, people from all over the world came here for work. This country will regain its former glory. We want to bring back that glory," he added.
Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan was the special guest at the conference chaired by Kushtia District Jamaat Ameer Professor Abul Hashem and moderated by Secretary General Shuja Uddin Joaddar.
