
Uncle killed by nephew in Chunarughat

Cherag Ali (55) was killed by his nephew over a land dispute in Chunarughat. The deceased was the son of Suruj Ali of Mohdirkona village in the upazila. In the incident, the nephew Bikash and five others were injured. Following the incident, police arrested two people: Yasin and Akram.
On Thursday (14 August) at around 6:00 am, Cherag Ali and his associates went to plow a disputed piece of land. At that time, his sister Nur Nahar, along with her husband Abul Kasem and son Bikash, tried to block them. A verbal argument escalated into a physical clash using knives and sticks. Cherag Ali was seriously injured in the altercation and taken to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital, where he died during treatment.
Former local UP Chairman Mohammad Ramiz Uddin stated that Cherag Ali and his sister had an ongoing land dispute. The matter had previously been addressed in a mediation (salish) meeting, but the dispute resurfaced as the court case had not been withdrawn. On Thursday morning, when Cherag Ali went to plow the land, his sister along with her husband and son intervened, leading to the clash in which Cherag Ali died.
OC of Chunarughat Police Station, Md. Nur Alam, said two people involved in the incident have been arrested. After the postmortem, the body will be handed over to the family, and legal action is underway.
