The monthly coordination meeting of Upazila Health Complex was held in Boalkhali in the Conference Room of Upazila Health Center on Wednesday.
Boalkhali Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Jafrin Jahed Jiti presided over the meeting with the hospital's specialist doctors, medical officers, senior staff nurses and SACMOs.
In this, a view exchange was held between specialist doctors and nurses in treating patients who came for snakebite so that it is possible to ensure the necessary treatment of patients bitten by snakes at the upazila level.
In the meeting, Dr. Jafrin Jahed Jiti said, many patients with snakebites come to us at the health center. They bring them with a tight bandage on the thorn, as a result of which the affected organ is getting affected by pressure and rotting or infection.
Even if it is not a poisonous snake, we need to treat the affected limb separately.
She said that no kind of tight bandage/knot should be applied to the snake bite site. When a snake bites, the affected area swells. If the area is blocked more tightly, blood circulation will stop and it will swell more and blood will not flow to the affected limb. This can lead to rotting of the tissue of that limb and the entire limb may rot. As a result, amputation may be required later. In addition, tight bandages also stop blood flow to the arteries, which also damages the muscles and nerves.
Dr. Jafrin Jahed Jiti also said that instead of tying or tying, a little pressure should be applied with the help of a bandage. This is called pressure immobilization. If a bandage is not available, a towel, scarf or something like that can be used.
