Body of missing child recovered from canal in Dohar

Dohar & Nawabganj (Dhaka) Correspondent

In Dohar Upazila of Dhaka, the body of a madrasa student, Mariam (7), was recovered from a canal two days after she went missing.

On Wednesday (13 August) morning, the child’s body was retrieved from a canal near her house in Madhurchar, Sutarpara Union.

Mariam was the daughter of Adiluddin Bepari and Shahida from Madhurchar, Sutarpara Union.

According to local and family sources, on Monday (11 August), Mariam went to bathe in the canal near her house with a neighboring child. After bathing, the neighbor returned home, but Mariam did not. Her mother searched in and around the house and nearby ponds but could not find her. Subsequently, a general diary was filed at Dohar Police Station, and announcements were made via public address system in search of the child.

Two days later, locals spotted Mariam’s body floating in the canal near her home and, with their help, the body was recovered.

The loss of their only child has left Mariam’s mother almost inconsolable. Her father, Adiluddin Bepari, resides in Saudi Arabia.

The Dohar police visited the scene after receiving the news.
