Rupganj (Narayanganj) Correspondent
Rupganj Upazila Administration has shut down a 40-year-old unauthorized cattle market in Rupganj and carried out an eviction drive. During the operation, a mobile court auctioned seven large illegal sand stockpiles adjacent to the market for only Tk 1.5 lakh.
The drive took place on Monday noon, August 18, at Purbachal Sector 4 under Rupganj Sadar Union, where the illegal market was being operated in the name of Janata High School. The operation was led by Rupganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Saiful Islam.
Also present during the drive were Rupganj Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Purbachal Revenue Circle Officer Tasbir Hossain, Rupganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tariqul Islam, and other administrative officials.
After the operation, UNO Saiful Islam told reporters for decades, this cattle market had been operating illegally under the name of a school without any government lease. The market, held every Monday, was occupying RAJUK-owned land.
Moreover, the activities of the market were disrupting the education of school students. We have shut it down, demolished bamboo and wooden structures, and seized the market equipment. In addition, since several illegal sand traders were absent, the mobile court auctioned the sand piles for Tk 1.5 lakh. Such drives will continue.
