Locals form human chain demanding steps to prevent erosion of Dharla River in Phulbari

With the slogan "Prevent the erosion of the Dharla River, save the people of Char Gorak Mandap," Char Gorak formed a human chain in Phulbari, Kurigram, demanding the prevention of the erosion of the Dharla River and the protection of the Char Gorak Mandap area.

Hundreds of men and women participated in the two-hour human chain on the eastern bank of the Dharla River at Char Gorak Mandap on Friday, August 22. Locals Shahadat Hossain, Abdul Halim Zafar, Atiqur Rahman,
Golam Mawla, Abdul Aziz, Zahid Hasan, Marjana Bewa, Ajimon Begum and many others.

Speakers at the human chain said that hundreds of families in the area are at risk of losing their homes due to the erosion of the embankment. Much land has been submerged in the riverbed. If effective measures are not taken to prevent erosion quickly, educational institutions, mosques, agricultural land, and houses will be under threat.

At that time, the locals sought the intervention of the relevant government department to urgently construct a permanent dam to prevent river erosion.
