Joydev Chakraborty, Keshabpur (Jashore)
The Keshabpur-Kalagachi via Panjia road has been damaged, creating large potholes and turning it into a lake of mud. This situation has been going on for a long time. When it rains, the potholes fill with water and stop the movement of vehicles. At that time, pedestrians have to travel through alternative roads. Locals complain that this situation has been going on for the past one year.
The road from Harez Khar Brick Mill to Maguradanga Eidgah has collapsed and become unusable. Due to the large potholes, easy bikes and vans are plying on alternative roads. Pedestrians complain that when it rains, there is no way to walk on the road. The water accumulates in the potholes and becomes knee-deep.
Siddiqur Rahman of Belkati village, who regularly travels on this road, said that they are facing extreme hardships due to the large potholes on the road. Hafizur Rahman, a van driver from Panjia village, said that no passenger wants to board the van easily as the road is broken. Passengers are forced to take an alternative road to Keshabpur.
Abdul Khalek of Mulgram in the upazila, who travels on the road, said that the road has become a mess. When you get on the van, it feels like you are going to be hit by a car. Many people have fallen from the van and been injured. Easybike drivers said that due to the damage to the road, they have to take their cars to the Barsha Khora intersection on the Barenga road and go through the village near the Maguradanga Eidgah on the road. Given the situation, it seems that no one is watching. If the road is not repaired quickly, they will be in extreme trouble.
Keshabpur Sadar Union Parishad Chairman Alauddin said that about 50,000 to 60,000 people and several hundred vehicles travel on this road every day. Considering the suffering, the Upazila Coordination Committee meeting has decided to fill the potholes quickly and make it suitable for movement. Some potholes have already been filled. More than a hundred potholes on the three-kilometer road have made it difficult for vehicles to move.
In this regard, Upazila Engineer Md. Nazimul Haque said, the project to renovate the road including raising it has been approved. The road will be renovated by the contractor very soon.
