
Human chain by journalists in Tungipara protesting murder of journalist Tuhin

A human chain was formed in Tungipara, Gopalganj, to protest the murder of Asaduzzaman Tuhin, a journalist working in Gazipur and a staff reporter for the daily Pratidiner Kagoj.
The protest took place on Sunday at 11:30 AM at the Patgati bus stand area of Tungipara, organized under the banner of the Tungipara Journalists Unity Forum. Journalists from various press clubs in Tungipara participated in solidarity.
Speeches were made at the event by Mehdi Hasan, editor of Nobodhara, Mohammad Imran Sheikh, president of the Upazila Press Club, Shoukat Hossain Mukul, president of Tungipara Press Club, Afzal Hossain, general secretary, and several other journalist leaders.
The speakers stated, "The brutal murder of journalist Tuhin is not only the loss of a professional journalist’s life but also a severe attack on freedom of speech. Immediate and exemplary justice must be ensured for this murder."
They further said, "The failure to prosecute cases like the Sagar-Runi murder case, the killing of journalist Tapu's son Arman in Tungipara, and other incidents is increasing insecurity among journalists. Therefore, we demand the enactment of strict laws to ensure the safety of journalists."
Present at the human chain were Bipul Sheikh, general secretary of the Tungipara Press Club, representatives from Amar Sangbad Farhan Labib, Ajker Darpan Shafik Shimul, Bhorer Kagoj representative Shafik Shimul, Ittefaq representative Saju Sheikh, Khobor Sangjog’s Shanto Sheikh, journalist Tapu, Rakib, and many others.
The journalists held banners and placards to protest the murder and called for swift justice. The speakers emphasized that the united stand of the journalist community is key to ensuring future security.
