Mahbub Pial, Faridpur
A human chain was organized by the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Faridpur District unit on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in front of the Faridpur Press Club, pressing for a five-point demand. The program was presided over by District Ameer Md. Badaruddin.
Speakers at the event called for the immediate holding of national elections under the Proportional Representation (PR) system, the restoration of voting rights, and the creation of a free and fair electoral environment in the country. They stated that elections without the PR system would not be acceptable and that the system would ensure proper evaluation of every vote. Jamaat leaders also urged for these demands to be included in the July National Charter and placed for a national referendum.
Additionally, they demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of extortionists, terrorists, and rapists.
The human chain was conducted by District Secretary Prof Abdul Wahab, while speeches were delivered by District Nayeb-e-Ameer Abu Haris Molla, Sadar Upazila Ameer Mohammad Jasim Uddin, President of the Workers Federation S.M. Abul Bashar, Professor Md. Billah Hossain, and several other leaders and activists.
