
Young man's leg amputated in another landmine explosion in Naikyangchhari

A Bangladeshi youth named Omar Mia (25) has lost the lower part of his left ankle in a landmine explosion at the Naikshongchhari border in Bandarban. The incident took place inside Myanmar at 10 am on Wednesday at 400 meters from Pillar 46-47 of Jarulia Chhari BOP.
The injured Omar Mia (25) is the son of Saber Mia, a resident of Moulvikata area of Kachchhpia Union in Ramu Upazila of Cox's Bazar.
Police and locals said that Omar Mia has been involved in smuggling cattle and drugs across the border for a long time. He often used to bring cattle and drugs across the border. When he went to bring smuggled goods to the border on Wednesday morning.
A land mine planted by the Arakan Army exploded, blowing off the lower part of his ankle. Locals rescued him in his injured condition and first took him to the Naiksyangchhari Upazila Health Complex.
He was taken to Cox's Bazar Hospital from there. It is believed that the Arakan Army has planted mines at various places along the border due to the ongoing clashes between the Arakan Army and the military junta on the Myanmar border.
Naiksyangchhari Police Station OC Md. Masrurul said, "I have heard that one person was injured in a mine explosion. Locals rescued him and took him to the hospital."
It is mentioned that earlier on June 22, a Bangladeshi youth lost his leg in a landmine explosion on the Jamchhari border in Naiksyangchhari. This brings the total number of people who have lost their legs and been seriously injured in landmine explosions in the past year.
