Bangladesh Coast Guard  has detained 13 smugglers along with 430 sacks of urea fertilizer worth about Tk  1.6 million  and 600 sacks of potatoes while being illegally smuggled to Myanmar's Rakhine State.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Harun-or-Rashid disclosed this information in a press release on Thursday afternoon.

According to the press release, based on secret information, a special operation was conducted by Coast Guard Base Chattogram at the outer anchorage of Patenga, at 5 pm on Wednesday.
During the operation, the Coast Guard patrol team searched two suspicious engine-run wooden boats and detained 13 traffickers along with 430 sacks of urea fertilizer, 600 sacks of potatoes, 40 liters of lube oil, and 2 Hamko batteries worth approximately 1.634 million BDT, which were being smuggled to Myanmar’s Rakhine State evading customs duties.

The seized goods, the detained traffickers, and the boats used in the trafficking are in the process of being handed over to the Sadarghat Naval Police.

To maintain the country’s law and order, Bangladesh Coast Guard has maintained 24-hour patrols. Through this, the law and order situation and prevention of smuggling in coastal and riverside areas under Coast Guard jurisdiction have significantly improved. Similar operations by the Coast Guard will continue in the future to curb smuggling.
