
World Sight Day celebrated in Chapainawabganj

World Sight Day 2025 was celebrated with due dignity in Chapainawabganj with the theme "Love your eyes".
The day was celebrated on Thursday afternoon as a joint initiative of the District Health Department, BRAC Health Program and VisionSpring.
To mark the day, a colorful rally was taken out from the Civil Surgeon's Office premises. The rally, after parading the main roads of the city, converged at the same place for a discussion meeting.
The speakers at the discussion said that currently about 14.3 million people in the country are suffering from vision problems, many of whom are at risk of blindness due to lack of timely treatment. The speakers called for increasing awareness about eye care, prevention of blindness, and regular eye examinations.
The meeting was presided over by Civil Surgeon Dr. A.K.M. Shahab Uddin. Surveillance Medical Officer Dr. Ashab Shahriar, BRAC Health Program Rajshahi Division Manager Arif Ahmed, District Manager Nazim Uddin, BRAC District Coordinator Momena Khatun and Area Manager Abdul Quddus were present.
In his speech as the chief guest, Civil Surgeon Dr. A.K.M. Shahab Uddin said, "It is everyone's responsibility to protect eyesight. Various diseases including diabetes can cause eye complications. If these diseases can be controlled at the beginning, the risk of blindness can be greatly reduced."
He further said that the government has already undertaken a special project for the elderly to improve eye health care, so that vision problems of senior citizens can be resolved.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of the day, free eye treatment was provided to patients of different ages in the Baliadanga area** of Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila.
