World Environment Day celebrated in Morelganj

With the slogan “No More Plastic Pollution, Time to Act is Now,” with this theme, World Environment Day 2025 was celebrated in Morelganj, Bagerhat, through a variety of programs.
The observance began at 11:00 AM on Wednesday in the courtyard of the Upazila Parishad. Organized by the Morelganj Upazila Administration and supported by several non-governmental organizations, the day started with a vibrant rally that paraded through the main roads of the town and concluded at the Upazila Parishad premises.
Following the rally, a discussion meeting was held at the Upazila Parishad Conference Room, presided over by Morelganj UNO Md. Habibullah.
During the discussion, speakers highlighted the severe environmental damage caused by the excessive use of plastic and polythene. They expressed deep concern over the threat posed to coastal areas and the biodiversity of the Sundarbans. Recent studies have detected the presence of microplastic particles in fish, river water, and even in breast milk — a grave warning for future generations.
Speakers emphasized the urgent need to raise public awareness about environmental protection and stressed the importance of using eco-friendly alternatives.
