Minister of Social Welfare and Women and Child Affairs Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain said, "In the last election, I went to many villages and I could not go to many villages. Before the election on February 12, some people used to say that if we were elected, we would not be found. I express my gratitude to you. With the infinite mercy of Allah Almighty and your cooperation, I have got the opportunity to serve you. We are trying to reach out to the common people. We are trying to understand their problems and difficulties as much as possible and stand by them accordingly."
He made these remarks as the chief guest during an exchange of views with local political leaders and civil society representatives of Binail Union in Birampur Upazila on Thursday morning.
The minister said, today is September 24. The current government was formed on February 17. The current government is only seven months and seven days old. Can mothers and sisters tell whether seven-month-old babies can run? Seven-month-old babies try to sit up. We are also a seven-month-old government.
Dr. Zahid said, "A big problem in our society is drugs. Birampur is a big border area, and drugs are a big problem here. To eradicate this drug, all the people of the society must come forward. It is not possible for the police or law enforcement agencies alone to suppress drugs. We, the locals, know very well who is selling drugs and who is consuming them.
Birampur Upazila BNP President Shafiqul Alam Mamun, General Secretary Manjur Elahi Chowdhury Rubel, Senior Vice President Dabirul Islam and others were present at the program, chaired by Birampur Upazila BNP President (Acting) Alhaj Md. Hafez Ali Fakir and moderated by General Secretary Maqbul Hossain.
Local public representatives, administration officials, political leaders, and people from different classes and professions were present at the time.
