Rabbi dies after being burnt in petrol fire in Narsingdi after 5 days

Tanvir Ahmed Rabbi (30), an employee of a licensed domestic liquor shop in Narsingdi, died five days after pouring petrol on himself and setting himself on fire for not being given free alcohol. He died while undergoing treatment at the ICU of the National Burn Institute on Thursday (September 24) afternoon, said his father Monir Hossain and Narsingdi Sadar Police Station OC ARM Al Mamun.
The news of his death has cast a shadow of grief over the family. The grieving family, along with the locals, have demanded exemplary punishment for those involved in the murder.
Narsingdi Additional Superintendent of Police Ashiqur Rahman said, "We have heard the news of the death of Rabbi who is undergoing treatment. The case filed by Rabbi's mother as the plaintiff in this incident will be converted into a murder case. So far, the police have arrested the main accused in this incident, Jahangir Sarkar (60), the owner of the residential hotel Nirala, and another accused named Kazi Toufiq Ahmed alias Piyas (30). Efforts are being made to arrest the main accused, Zahid Sarkar, who is absconding.
Rabbi's mother Minu Begum filed a case against 2-3 unknown people, including Jahangir Sarkar and his son Zahid Sarkar, at Narsingdi Sadar Model Police Station on Sunday (September 20) in this incident.
