
UP chairman arrested in Munshiganj

Police arrested Kazi Monowar Hossain Shahadat, Chairman of the Bhagyakul Union Parishad and a leader of the Awami League in Munshiganj's Sreenagar upazila st 7 pm.on Monday.
Sreenagar police conducted a raid at his residence in the Kamargaon area and detained him. Later, around 10 PM, he was handed over to the custody of the Sadar police station.
The arrestee, Monowar Hossain Shahadat, is the son of the late Kazi Fazlul Haque of Kamargaon area. In addition to being the current UP Chairman, he is also a member of the Union Awami League and a former General Secretary of the Union Jubo League.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreenagar police station, Md. Shakil Ahmed, said that the UP Chairman was arrested and taken to Munshiganj Sadar police station. OC Md. Saiful Alam of Sadar police station stated that Shahadat will be sent to court on Tuesday morning in connection with a case filed by the Anti-Discrimination Movement. He is currently in police custody at Sadar station.
It is to be noted that on August 4 last year, during a protest organized by students of the Anti-Discrimination Movement in the Super Market area of Munshiganj town, Awami League activists took a hard stance against the demonstrators. During the clash between the two sides, Awami League members opened fire with firearms, resulting in three deaths and over a hundred injuries. The UP Chairman was arrested in connection with that incident.
