UNO Farzana Akter seeks journalists’ cooperation to make Tungipara free from drugs, corruption

B M Shamim, Tungipara (Gopalganj)

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Farzana Akter has called on journalists to join hands in transforming Gopalganj's Tungipara upazila into a model area free from drugs and corruption.

Speaking at a view exchange meeting with local journalists on Monday, she said, “The media is the mirror of society. With your support, we can turn Tungipara into a corruption-free, education-friendly, and ideal upazila. I have adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drugs.”

She further added, “Tungipara still lags behind in education. I want every child here to be enlightened with the light of knowledge. All necessary steps will be taken to improve the quality of education.”

Tungipara Press Club President Shawkat Hossain Mukul, General Secretary Md. Afzal Hossain, and other senior journalists were present at the meeting.

They highlighted various issues, including irregularities, corruption, drug abuse, education, healthcare, and environmental concerns, urging the administration to take stronger and more proactive measures to address them.

Journalist leaders stated, “Journalists have always played a constructive role in the overall development of Tungipara. However, we also expect the administration to take a firm stance against the corrupt.”

At the end of the meeting, UNO Farzana Akter expressed her gratitude to the journalists, saying, “If you stand by us, it is possible to bring about real change in Tungipara. This meeting has opened a new chapter of cooperation between the administration and the media.”
