
Veteran journalist Mahbub Hossain Sarmat passes away in Gopalganj

Veteran journalist Mahbub Hossain Sarmat (54), Gopalganj District Correspondent of NTV and The Daily Amar Desh, passed away on Friday at 5:55 PM at his residence in Thana Para, Gopalganj town, following a cardiac arrest (Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un).
He had been an active journalist in Gopalganj for more than three decades. He began his career with The Daily Dinkal, and later served with Amar Desh and NTV with dedication and professionalism that earned him widespread respect in the local journalism community.
He is survived by his wife, three daughters, five brothers, and four sisters. He was the second among ten siblings, and his late father, Advocate Eskendar Ali Sardar, was a respected lawyer at the Gopalganj District Judge Court.
At the time of his death, Sarmat was serving as the President of the Gopalganj TV Journalists’ Association.
His Namaz-e- Janaza was held on Saturday (October 11) after Zuhr prayers at Gopalganj Alia Madrasa, followed by burial at the Gopalganj Municipality Graveyard, beside the graves of his parents.
Upon hearing the news of his death, members of the Gopalganj TV Journalists’ Association, Gopalganj Reporters Forum, along with various media professionals, and political organizations including the District BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and other socio-political groups expressed deep grief and condolences to the bereaved family.
Throughout his journalism career, Mahbub Hossain Sarmat was known as a sincere, committed, and respected journalist who made significant contributions to journalism in Gopalganj.
His death marks the end of an era for the district’s media community.
