
UNESCO Education chief makes calls on UGC Chairman Faiz

Professor Dr. S.M.A. Faiz, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, was paid a courtesy call by UNESCO’s newly -appointed Head of Education, Norihide Furukawa on Thursday at the UGC conference room.
UGC members Prof Dr. Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan, Prof Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossain, Prof Dr. Masuma Habib, Secretary Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam, and Acting Director of the International Cooperation Division, Jesmin Parveen, among other officials were present.
During the discussion, detailed talks were held regarding the inception report of research on the social and mental well-being of university students under the jointly implemented project on “Social and Mental Health Protection” by UGC and UNESCO.
UGC Chairman Prof Faiz welcomed UNESCO’s new education head and expressed his gratitude for undertaking the “Social and Mental Health Protection” project for the welfare of university students. He assured that the project would be implemented effectively.
It is mentioned that the “Social and Mental Health Protection” project was initiated to help student activists involved in the July uprising return to normal life. Under this initiative, mental health support will be provided to 10,000 students across 22 public and private universities in the country. The project is being jointly implemented by UGC and UNESCO.
