
Int'l Chinese Language Day celebrated at DU

The Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka organized a cultural program to celebrate International Chinese Language Day at the Institute of Modern Languages (IML) auditorium on Friday.
The event was held with the collaboration of the Dhaka University Confucius Institute, North South University Confucius Institute, and Shanto-Mariam–Honghe Confucius Classroom.
Prof Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) of the University of Dhaka, attended the event as the chief guest. The program was presided over by Dr. Yang Hui, Director of the Confucius Institute at Dhaka University. Mr. Li Shaopeng, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy, addressed the gathering as a special guest, and the welcome speech was delivered by Prof Mohammad Absar Kamal, Director of IML.
Students from Dhaka University, North South University, and Shanto-Mariam University who are currently studying Chinese language and culture participated in various segments of the event, including a Chinese poetry recitation competition, musical performances, and an engaging cultural showcase.
In her remarks, Professor Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha emphasized the long-standing friendly ties between Bangladesh and China, noting deep similarities in education and culture. She highlighted the importance of further strengthening bilateral ties through language and cultural exchange programs. Events like these, she said, foster deeper connections among students from both countries and help build stronger people-to-people relationships.
The celebration served not only as a platform for cultural exchange but also as a meaningful step toward enriching the mutual understanding and cooperation between the two nations.
