Abdullah Al Mamun, BU
General students of Barishal University (BU) have displayed caricatures of teachers accused of being accomplices in the authoritarianism prevailing in the university administration on Wednesday.
The satirical art exhibition was held on the ground floor of the university.
Before that, the students held a protest rally. After the rally, caricatures of teachers in the university administration were displayed while the song "Joy Bangla" was played.
The protesting students alleged that a respected teacher like Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohsin Uddin has been insulted and unlawfully removed from the syndicate. They declared that their movement will continue until Professor Mohsin is reinstated.
They further stated that Registrar Monirul Islam Monpura is a holder of an Awami League post. He has been reinstated in an irregular manner, which is against administrative transparency. He must be removed immediately.
Students also alleged that many teachers and staff who supported mass killings during the July movement and were engaged in flattery of the administration are still present in the university. The Vice-Chancellor is rehabilitating them again into the administration. These teachers and staff must be removed from all administrative and lucrative committees. They have no place in the university.
Rakin Khan, a student of the English department who participated in the movement, said, “We do not want to see any accomplices of fascism in the administration of Barishal University. If our 4-point demands are not met, we will be forced to announce more intense programs.
