University Grants Commission (UGC) Member Prof Dr Masuma Habib today urged teachers and researchers to focus on creating new knowledge through research for improving the quality of education in the country.

He said he advised the teachers and researchers to take initiative to publish the results of the research in quality journals. UGC is taking necessary initiatives to assist teachers and researchers in this regard, he said.

He said this while speaking as the chief guest at an academic seminar titled 'Determining the consistency of PhD thesis and teaching related issues earned by the education department employee (teacher)'.The seminar was held at UGC on Wednesday. Dr. Durga Rani Sarker, Director (Additional Charge), Research Grants and Award Division, UGC presided over the function while UGC Secretary Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman addressed it as special guest. Professor Masuma Habib said the UGC authorities have taken initiatives to preserve the researches digitally. A database of research will be created soon. Researchers will benefit from this in many ways and the repetition of research can be prevented, he thinks.He said good research is being done in various fields including agriculture. He thinks that the country's higher education will move forward through these researches.Dr. Fakhrul Islam said that the results of these research results of school and college teachers in the changed Bangladesh will really be useful for the welfare of the nation. These research will contribute immensely to the creation of new knowledge. He said the UGC will recommend Moushi to post these PhD teachers in colleges where honors and masters courses are running.Vice-Chancellor of Islamic Arabic University Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman presided over the seminar. Prof Dr Md Shamsul Alam, Director General of International Mother Language Institute Prof Muhammad Asaduzzaman, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh Open University Prof Dr Sayeed Ferdous, Pro-Vice Chancellor of EAB Prof Dr Mohammad Abu Zafar Khan, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, among others, spoke on the occasion. Prof Dr Md Belal Hossain, Prof Dr Mohammad Towfiqul Islam and Prof Dr Nevin Farida of Dhaka University, Prof Dr Khondoker Shariful Islam, Prof Dr Murad Ahmed Faruq and Prof Mahbuba Jahan of Bangladesh Agricultural University and Prof Dr Jashim Uddin of BAU were present as expert members on the subject.Additional Director of Research Grants and Award Division. Shaheen Siraj and Deputy Director Mohammad Nazrul Islam were present.The seminar was organized to evaluate the PhD thesis of 12 teachers of different government schools and colleges and determine the compatibility of the degrees earned with the subjects related to teaching.
