
Freshers’ reception, farewell ceremony at DU Physics and Fisheries departments

The freshers’ reception and farewell ceremony of the Physics Department and the Fisheries Department of Dhaka University (DU) were held on Thursday.
The Fisheries Department organized its freshers’ reception, farewell ceremony, and Chairman’s Award distribution event at the Professor Mohammad Shafi Fisheries Building Auditorium. The Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) of Dhaka University, Prof Dr. Mamun Ahmed, graced the occasion as the chief guest.
The event was chaired by the departmental chairman, Mohammad Mamun Chowdhury. The Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences, Professor Dr. Md. Enamul Hoque, delivered a speech as the special guest. Additionally, the department’s student advisor, Professor Wahida Haque, and the convener of the organizing committee, Dr. Md. Alamgir Kabir, also addressed the gathering.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Mamun Ahmed emphasized that Dhaka University offers equal opportunities for every student. He urged students to utilize these opportunities and facilities to become competent citizens, working towards fulfilling their own dreams as well as those of their families. He also stressed the importance of excelling in co-curricular activities alongside education and research.
During the ceremony, three students who achieved the highest CGPA in their Masters’ final examination were honored with the Chairman’s Award. The recipients were Samina Akter, Saikat Das, and Sumaiya Binte Salam.

In his address, Treasurer Prof Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury highlighted the significance of physics in practical fields, stating that advancing science is impossible without expertise in fundamental subjects like physics. He emphasized the importance of innovative ideas, teamwork, and proficiency in co-curricular activities for achieving success in professional life.
