Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Paba Thana police, with the assistance of locals, arrested two thieves in the Parila area of Rajshahi metropolis on charges of stealing a battery-operated auto-rickshaw.

The arrested individuals are Md. Mukul Hossain (34) and Md. Ashraf (38). Mukul is the son of Md. Aslam Ali from the Maria Kharkhari area of Paba Thana, and Ashraf is the son of Md. Ruhul Amin from Purba Shulyakia, Sudharam Thana, Noakhali district.

According to the incident, on June 14, auto-rickshaw driver Md. Anarul Islam (40) set out with his battery-operated auto-rickshaw as usual. At around 8:30 AM, the accused hired the rickshaw on an hourly basis from the Rajshahi Railgate area, claiming they wanted to “roam around.”

After traveling through various areas, they reached the Parila Sidir Mor area. When the driver stepped away to attend to a personal need in a secluded spot, the accused, as part of a pre-planned scheme, attempted to flee with the stolen rickshaw. The driver raised an alarm, prompting locals to intervene immediately and inform the Paba Thana police.

Upon receiving the information, SI SM Asib Nasib of Paba Thana, along with his team, quickly arrived at the scene, apprehended the accused with the help of locals, and recovered the stolen auto-rickshaw.

During initial interrogation, the accused confessed to the theft. It was revealed that the main accused, Mukul Hossain, has multiple cases against him related to drugs and robbery, along with a pending arrest warrant.

Legal action has been taken against the arrested individuals, and they have been sent to jail through the court.
